I have been honoured to take photos of this special, brave child who has been diagnosed with the condition medically known as “Gender Dysphoria”
Born anatomically male, from the age of 4, has always identified as female in gender.
I have photographed Willow over the last 3 years, from the age of 7, documenting the subtleties of her physical growth, self confidence and above all, her happiness.
Research shows that a frightening number of gender diverse youth suffer serious mental health issues, all due to lack of acceptance, validation and support.
More than 50% self harm or attempt suicide by the time they reach 20yrs of age.
With the support from the family, and under the care of the Gender Identity Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Willow has shown great courage in telling the world: I know who I am
